HJ Lubricators launches SIP+ – faster retrofits, dual-fuel ready and cleaner operation

HJ Lubricators has launched SIP+, an enhanced version of its patented Swirl Injection Principle (SIP) for two-stroke marine engines. The redesigned valve removes the need for internal liner machining and top-cover removal – a breakthrough that cuts installation time by more than one-third. SIP+ enables retrofits during normal port stays, reducing downtime and installation costs.

“SIP+ takes a proven technology and makes it easier and faster to install,” says Mark Kristensen, Head of Sales at HJ Lubricators. “We achieve the same optimal lubrication at low feed rates without machining inside the cylinder – saving both time and cost for shipowners.”

Improved performance and lower emissions
The SIP+ valve maintains all the advantages of the original SIP system: uniform oil-film distribution, reduced liner wear, and lower lube-oil consumption. It is fully compatible with existing lubrication systems and optimised for modern engine conditions, including thin-oil and dual-fuel operation.

Lower lube-oil consumption translates directly into reduced operating costs, while less oil burned means lower CO₂ and particle emissions – helping owners meet tightening emission standards. HJ Lubricators estimates a typical payback period of around three years and provides an online calculator for precise savings estimates.

“With more than 3,500 HJ systems already in service, we see SIP+ as a small design change with a big impact,” Kristensen concludes. “It gives shipowners a flexible, efficient way to future-proof their engines.”
